A simmering dispute between the mayor of Lawrence and the city's school superintendent has mobilized the city's black and Latino community against what activists there say is a racially charged political vendetta.

Four Capital District residents and six others have been indicted on federal charges alleging they participated in an area cocaine-distribution ring over the past 18 months, federal authorities announced Wednesday in Albany.

The federal indictment alleged the 10 defendants "operated an illegal drug organization" and traveled to and from Illinois, Indiana, New York City and Troy and distributed kilos of cocaine in the Troy area, according to a statement released by Frederick J. Scullin Jr., U.S. attorney for the Northern District of New York.
